The Real Filipino Bride

No much is known about the wedding traditions of the original Filipino brides from before the days of Spanish colonization of 1521, but when they arrived they brought with them the Catholic religion and all of its traditions. Unlike the traditional American wedding, when you choose a Filipino Bride, you are choosing a very long wedding that includes a number of traditions that have been performed for many centuries.

The term used for the Filipino wedding is the Kasal which simply means wedding. Much like the rest of the world, a Filipino bride dreams of her wedding day in early youth. On top of that, parts of the traditional Kasal also includes the Filipino bride’s youth in which one set of the participants are the sponsors which in most cases were also their god parents who were present at the baptismal.

When choosing to marry a Filipino bride, you are not just marrying her; but in fact you are marrying into her whole family. When the wedding starts, there will be an entire entourage which will consist of the usual maid of honor, best man, bride’s maids, groom’s men, flower girls and ring bearers, but it will also include the primary and secondary sponsors. You will also need to choose a couple to handle the chord as well as another couple for the veil. Unlike the standard ring bearer though which in most weddings is the best man, when you choose a Filipino bride your ring bearer will be another couple in charge of bearing not just the rings, but also 13 coins.

A Filipino bride expects the wedding to be a certain way; after all it is really her day. The tradition of the coins, veil as well as the cord ceremonies during a Kasal are that of Catholic origin and while some of these may be present in other religions until you have a Filipino wedding, you will not see the total importance of these ceremonies.

What’s even bigger is the traditional reception following the Kasal which is a humongous feast where you will see hundreds of relatives that you may never see again. When it is all said and done though, choosing to go with a Filipino bride over any other will be more than worth all of the effort.

It is important to keep in mind that while you may see websites taunting Filipino brides, you should stay clear of these as no self-respecting Filipina would want anything to do with them; not to mention the legality of a site promoting such services in the Philippines. Take your time to find the perfect Filipino bride and when you do finally find her; never let her go. Above all never make promises you never intend to keep either.

If you take a Filipino bride and then later reject her and the wedding, this is bad news for all parties involved. The rejection or calling off of a Kasal means that the Filipino bride was not worthy of marriage and the family will see it that way. In many cases they will also know it is not true and may be looking for vengeance for the disrespect shown to the Filipino bride as well as the rest of the family.
